Its Spring! The gateway to my favourite season of the year, aka Summer. Despite the bipolar nature of the weather, I am enjoying myself quite a bit lately. The warming of the days is stirring up my spirits as I prepare myself (and my wardrobe) for the festival season.

I have always been a summer baby, thanks to spending my childhood in the boiling temperatures of Pakistan. I was always that kid who wore sneaker and shorts and just ran around the neighbourhood causing trouble. I’d climb trees, go on a make-believe scavenger hunt looking for lost treasures, ring my neighbour’s doorbell and run away, watch the sun set in to the sea from the rooftop, and journal about my pretend adventures across the globe at the end of the day.

I have always been a dreamer ever since I can remember. Dreaming has been like oxygen to me, something just as effortless and necessary. I have always believed in keeping that child alive within you and continue to keep my wild child days ahead of me. Its important to every now and then let go and just enjoy the art that is living. We often get so caught up in the nitty gritty that we lose sight of the big picture: to just be happy. My co-worker once taught me a very important lesson through a very simple story: a fisher man was fishing on his boat when a person stopped by and asked why he doesn’t consider opening up a shop in the city selling fishing goods. The fisher man then asked why would he do such a thing? The person replied, so he can make money. The fisher man then asked what then? The person replied so he can buy a big house and fancy cars. Fisher man asks so what then? The person replied so he can be happy! To this the fisher man said, but I am already happy 🙂

I often find myself caught up in the big dream of living my life by growing my blog and profiting my freelance business that I completely avoid living. The whole point of growing my brand is so that I can have enough freedom to live the life the way I want to live: not being constrained by 9-5 work life. But the keywords here are living and freedom, which I can still do in one way or another instead of waiting for that big day to come.

You see, we don’t need to go on elaborate trips, juice up our bank accounts or wait for that day when everything aligns with our plans – no! We need to find happiness in the small things, the important things. Like for me, its having tea with my mom while we catch up on a rainy day, to go see my best friend and crack some jokes and laugh about the old days, it is to go for a hike by myself and my camera to capture the beauty of what surrounds me, and to love and feel loved.

Thus, my advice is to let go every now and then and just soak in the happiness that surrounds us everyday even if we don’t notice it at first. Be a searcher of happiness and strive to live life every chance you get. Instead of waiting for the moment just go forth and seize whatever happiness you can get your hands on.
